The Workshop

The workshop features motets centred around the theme of Pentecost. Before this year, only 1 of the motets on the workshop programme had been previously performed or recorded. Mark has recently recorded first versions of the latter two and a new recording of the first on the list below. 

We will look at:

• Dum Essent Discipuli - Massaino

• Hodie completi sunt - Osculati

• Plus 1 other mystery piece! 

Singers and instrumentalists are encouraged as we will look at the relationship between voice and instruments side by side.

The Leader

Mark has an illustrious career as a bassoonist and player of renaissance wind instruments, as a countertenor and conductor.

As an award-winning bassoonist, he is a founder member of the Inventus Quartet. He works regularly with several of the country’s leading period instrument orchestras. He founded, and is musical director of Ensemble La Notte, which performs music of the 17th and 18th centuries on period instruments. He founded the English Wind Consort in 2023; its repertoire explores music from the 14th to 17th centuries.

Mark has sung countertenor with many cathedral choirs, notably Birmingham Cathedral Choir and with other groups including the Lassus Consort.

He was appointed Director of Music at Pembroke College, Oxford, in 2022 and he conducts the Oxford University Society’s Alumni Choir (Standish Consort) in Gloucestershire.
