Friends of St John's Church Keynsham

Introduction

Are you a friend of St John’s? Of course you are. If you are reading this magazine you are a friend of St John’s
and/or St Francis, St Margaret’s, St Michael’s and Chewton Keynsham churches.

But what I mean is are you one of the FRIENDS OF ST JOHN’S?

The Friends’, originally known as the “Bridges Society” was founded by the Right Reverend Richard Frith, Bishop of Hereford, in1990 when he was Rector here. The aim of the Friends is to provide help with the upkeep and restoration of the building and its surrounds.

More recently we have often helped with part funding of various projects, our latest cheque going to repair the steps to the bell chamber so that our ringers, and tower visitors can go up and down in greater safety.

Money is raised through an annual donation and occasional fundraising events such as ‘Son et Lumiere’ and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Schools production of ‘Moonfleet’. Obviously we would like more people to join the celebration of this special place. After all it is the oldest and most prominent building in the town and until Fry’s arrived the largest. It also acts as an important venue for many things.

More information about THE FRIENDS can be found in a leaflet that is on display on the small table situated in front
of the pew opposite the font. You may also like to pick up one of the small leaflets about the church.

I have been asked to write a series of occasional notes about the St John’s building, hopefully showing you some things you might not have noticed before for when coming to worship as one does not necessarily look too hard at ones surroundings.
