Youth TeamA small, but growing number of volunteers help facilitate the youth work under the leadership of the full-time youth worker Dan Crouch. The team bring a variety of skills to the work and are committed to building positive relationships with young people. Volunteers are always needed and while some are parents, we try to encourage other adult members of the church family to help. Volunteers are treated as paid staff and offered equal training and responsibility opportunities, particularly in the area of Child Protection. We also encourage volunteers to discern their calling regularly, just as those in paid ministry positions do, so that no role is assumed and volunteers are able to exercise their gifting for the benefit of the whole body.
The current team includes:
Dan Crouch - Having lived in Keynsham for his whole life, Dan has attended St John's Church since the age of 12. In 2005 Dan became assistant youth worker at St John's. In 2006 Dan commenced study for a degree in Youth and Community Work with Applied Theology, graduating in October 2009 with First Class Honours. Dan was appointed full-time youth worker in September 2009 and is getting married to Sarah in 2010.
Martin Burton - volunteers with the youth group on a Monday evening. Martin’s main job is as Head of South Gloucestershire Council Library Service.
Louise Hutchison - volunteers with the youth group on a Monday evening and Discover on Sunday mornings. By day, Louise is head of Human Resources for the local Catholic sixth form college.
Becki Hares - volunteers with the youth group on a Monday evening and Discover on Sunday mornings. Becki is a teacher, teaching at the local Catholic sixth form college.
Tim Burton – volunteers with the youth group on a Monday evening. Tim works as an electrical engineer for Network Rail.
Sarah Robbins – volunteers with almost all the youth work in the Parish. Sarah is currently training with the Audit Commission to become an Auditor and is engaged to Dan.
Ali Cohen – volunteers with Discover on a Sunday morning. Ali is a learning support assistant at a local secondary school.
Lorna Tredget – volunteers with ‘The Sanctuary’, is a trained therapist and currently ‘Chair of Governors’ of St John’s Primary School.
Child Protection and Risk Assessments.
The Church is a member of AMAZE (Association of Christian Youth and Children’s Workers) and has a dedicated Child Protection Officer (Wendy Harwood) who can be contacted via the Parish Office. Generic Risk Assessments for the hall are available in the office, specific risk assessments are completed for activities when necessary. | |
