Further ahead, you might consider signing up for an Alpha Course (Monday Evenings from mid January 2010), run by Simon and Ruth.  Millions of people across the world have found an open door to faith in God through this informal introduction to Christianity.  Again, contact the Parish Office as above for more details (leaflets are available at the back of church).

The next ‘Taste & See’ evening introducing the Christian faith is next Monday, 16^th November. We will start at 7.30 with crisps/nibbles & a glass or two of wine/juice, and will finish by 9.15pm. This is an informal, fun (laughter will definitely be on the agenda!), friendly evening which is designed to be interactive. The last thing we want to do at an evening like this is defend a certain expression of Christianity – our aim is, as Dominican missionary Vincent Donovan put it, “to not try to call people where you are, as beautiful as that place might seem… (rather) to have the courage to go to with them to a place that neither you or they have ever been before” - a shared pilgrimage towards the God who made himself known in Jesus Christ.

The ‘Taste & See’ evening also introduces the Alpha Course (that we are leading with Carl & Sharon Chalker, starting on Monday nights in mid-January) – a course through which, as you may know, literally millions worldwide have had the door opened to faith in God, or had their existing faith in God renewed. Taste & See attendees can then see whether the Alpha material (& the leaders!) is something they wish to engage with at this time. Here is a quote from Audrey (a lady in her twenties who came into contact with us through getting married at St John’s) who attended the last Taste & See and elected to go on and attend Alpha, and now is a regular member of our church:      

'The taste and see session is the perfect opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the format and content of the Alpha course. Simon and Ruth are both very approachable and easy to talk to and I was given the chance to find out whether Alpha would be right for me and also something I was comfortable with. It was a good chance to meet other people who might be attending the course, share & explore some thoughts on things we might discuss through the Alpha format and feel comfortable with the setup and environment. I would fully recommend it to anyone who wants to find out more or simply has some questions about Alpha.'
