St Johns Drama Group

THE DRAMA GROUP HAS A LAST-MINUTE REPRIEVE!

St John's Drama Group has been performing since 1951 but a shortage of members prevented any performances in 2007 or 2008. Happily we now have some new members from the Parish Players and our next production is planned for mid-November (see below). Members are still urgently needed, however, in all areas especially set construction - the 2009 production will have a minimal set for this reason.

The Group has supported St John's Church for many years, and it is also our tradition to make a donation from profits to either a local charity or to the Church - for the last production the good cause was the Church Hall Fund. We will welcome new members of all ages from sixteen upwards. There are many areas in which people can be involved including acting, set construction, stage management, promotion, publicity and 'front of house'. You are assured of a warm welcome; experience is not essential, only enthusiasm! We normally meet on Tuesday evenings - this would be a great time to join us, so why not give it a try?

Please phone Peter Irwin on 0117 9773735, or email him at Keynsham.Drama@blueyonder.co.uk, if you would like more information.

Our next production will be "The Golden Pathway Annual", by John Burrows, and will be performed in the Church Hall on Thursday to Saturday, November 19th to 21st 2009 starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are £6 (£4 children) including programme & refreshments (except wine).

The play is a series of connected sketches following the life of Michael Peters from being a twinkle in his father's eye up to the age of 23. It is a nostalgic look back at the period from the end of the second World War to the 1960s telling, through a series of mostly comic sketches, the story of a boy growing up between 1945 and 1968.
For some it will evoke nostalgic memories of the era in which it is set, but everyone will identify with the timeless and universal struggles of growing up. For Michael Peters the Golden Pathway Annual seems to be the perfect companion, but as he grows up he discovers the many contradictions that can wear out an adult.

For anyone who’s been a child, re-live the experience of growing up with Michael, his parents and the array of characters (real and fictional) that he meets along the way.
