The Bridges SocietyThe Bridges SocietyIn 1991 the then Rector of Keynsham, Richard Frith, came up with the idea of establishing an independent charity which would raise money for the continued preservation of St. John's. This would help to ensure that the building in which worship had been taken place for over seven hundred years would continue to exist for that purpose for generations to come. Named after the Bridges family who were early patrons of St. John's, the Society has during the past fifteen years been able to give over £13,000 towards the conservation of the church and has been busy filling its coffers so that it can continue to 'keep up the good work'. Each year various fund‑raising activities such as concerts, coach outings, guided tours etc. are organized by the Society. Because the Society’s funds are quite separate from those of the Parochial Church Council they are devoted exclusively to the prime purpose of the Society, namely the conservation of St. John's. Members pay a subscription of £10.00 a year. If they pay tax and sign a Gift Aid Form, the Society can reclaim the tax that has been paid on this and indeed any other donation; this means about 28p more for every £1 given, at no extra cost to the member. St. John's Church is generally acknowledged to be the most historic and beautiful building in Keynsham. If you agree with this, and would like to give your personal support to its continued conservation, please ask for a form obtainable from the Parish Office at St. John’s Hall, complete it as appropriate, and return it with your subscription(s) addressed to the Society's Secretary, or leave it on the table at the back of St. John's Church addressed to the Society who will then do the rest. Thank you. |
